The 47th South Carrick David Bell Memorial Road Race is a 'National A' status event.
Our aim is to create a second round of the Premier Calendar in Scotland by 2013. In 2015 we will host the 50th Edition of our race, rightly regarded as a monument on the Scottish racing calendar.
We have a guaranteed MINIMUM prize fund of £2,000 and are keen to attract the best possible field to the event.
The event is open to Elite, 1st and 2nd category riders. A handful of 3rd category riders will be invited to take part. We extend an open invitation to six man teams, but will happily speak to riders wishing to form a composite team.
The race will feature two sections of unpaved forest drive, specially groomed by the Forestry Commission. Race distance will be just shy of 160km, and take in several of the climbs in the area commonly referred to as 'The Ayrshire Alps'. Those who remember riding the Girvan stage race will be licking their lips at the thought of the Byne!
Accommodation:
We recognise that for many teams, Scotland is a major trek, so are working with local hotelliers to secure the best possible deals.
The Westcliffe Hotel (former headquarters of the Girvan Stage Race) are offering a fantastic deal for teams - Dinner bed and breakfast for £45pppn, usually £55. Speak to Jane on 01465 712128
Why race the Davie Bell?
We believe we have a truly unique event: fantastic scenery, challenging terrain, cycling history and most importantly the backing of an entire community. This event is entirely community driven - the promoting club work very closely with local communities to ensure that everyone is involved, with the opportunity to develop and celebrate our own skills and talents. This brings in local school children, students, social groups, sports clubs and more.
Additionally, the race has a proven pedigree. Former winners include Robert Millar, Jason MacIntyre, Evan Oliphant and James McCallum. Our list of former 'losers' is equally prestigious.
We want to see you at the 2012 Davie Bell, and are keen to open discussion with you to make this happen.
